Time and Place
The 65th IFLA Council and General Conference 1999 will take place at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangkok, Thailand, during August 20-28, 1999.
Conference Venue - BITEC
Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC) is the first purpose-built exhibition and convention centre in Thailand. BITEC's complex on a total of 60-acre or 240,000 square-metre plot of land consists of an 8,000-square-metre reception area, a 1,860-square-metre multi-purpose grand hall, a total of 15 break-out meeting rooms, a 20,000 - square-metre exhibition hall, and two outdoor exhibition areas totalling 15,000-square-metre. Opened officially to the public in 1997, the Centre responds to the operational needs, requirements and expectations of its clients, providing the finest service for exhibitions, conventions and special events with a perfect blend of the finest Thai hospitality and the highest international standards.
IFLA's Professional Board has decided that there will be no 'Contributed Paper Sessions' held at the 65th IFLA General and Council Conference (Bangkok, August 1999). The election of Executive Board members will take place in 1999. Voting delegates are kindly requested to go to the IFLA Voting Booth located in the Centre hall. Voting papers will be handed out to delegates in possession of the 1999 Membership Certificate duly signed.

Simultaneous interpretation services will be available in five languages: English, French, German, Russian and Spanish. This service is available for the opening and closing sessions, the plenary sessions on the general theme, the open forums, guest lectures, contributed paper sessions and a number of divisional and sectional sessions during the week. Please look for the SI mark sessions in the Final Programme.
Availability of Papers
During the Conference more than 150 papers and reports will be presented. Papers reaching IFLA Headquarters before June 1999 will be printed in their original language versions in 9 Booklets, one for each division, and one booklet which will contain the Presidential address, official contributed papers.
IFLA Express 1999
IFLA Express is an English daily newsletter which will be published six times during the Conference by the National Organization Committee in collaboration with the IFLA Secretariat, to give delegates information of general interest, and information from the IFLA Secretariat, Divisions and Sections, and from the National Organizers. Two pre-conference issues of IFLA Express will appear in January and May/June 1999 with the latest news on programme activities. It will be mailed to all IFLA members and officers, persons attending the previous IFLA conferences and other interested parties.
IFLA 1999 Exhibition
An International Trade Exhibition has been arranged at BITEC in connection with the 65th IFLA Conference 1999. The Exhibition will be held for 3 days during the Conference, from 23-25 August, 1999.
