The role of the Fiji (national) museum in collecting oral traditions in Fiji

Abstract:

This paper looks at the background of the Fiji Museum and the development of the Archaeology and the Collections Department which play active roles in the oral history/traditions project. It looks at past developments in the oral traditions project within Fiji (involving Indigenous people) and current developments (involving other ethnic communities). Concluding with what the museum envisions for the future of its oral history/traditions project.
