Call for Conference Papers Library History Section
The Past Development of Literacies in the Context of Libraries
The theme for the IFLA Library History Section’s contribution to the Buenos Aires
Congress in 2004 will be "The past development of literacies in the context of libraries".
This theme arises for IFLA’s Presidential theme, for 2003-2005, of "Libraries and Lifelong
Literacy". "Literacy" in this context has a wide definition. Papers may therefore address
the past development of literacies connected with oral, written and digital
communication; or with literacies connected with political, economic or social
emancipation, awareness and improvement.
Proposals (abstracts containing a maximum of 200 words) should be sent,
by 15 December 2003, to:
Dr. Hermina G.B. Anghelescu
Secretary of the IFLA Library History Section
Library and Information Science Program
