Call for Papers

Division VIII:
Regional Activities

Theme:

Information Literacy for the Knowledge Society

Division VIII of IFLA (Regional Activities) invites proposals for papers to be delivered at its Open Session on " Information Literacy for the Knowledge Society" at IFLA's World Library and Information Congress, Seoul,Korea, 2006. The precise time and date of the Open Session will be known in March 2006.

A great deal is written and said about the Knowledge Society, and about the need for effective information infrastructures (especially ICTs) to empower this Society.

Underpinning these infrastructures, however, is the issue of literacy and, in particular, Information Literacy, and how these not only help to close the Digital Divide that hampers effective development of knowledge societies, but also how such literacies can contribute directly to a robust and forward-looking Knowledge Society. It is against this background that this Call for Papers is issued, the intention being to solicit contributions that seek to address aspects of Literacy, Information Literacy, the Digital Divide and the Knowledge Society.

Accordingly, papers are invited on any aspect of Information Literacy as it affects the growing Knowledge Society in the regions of Division VIII: Asia and the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Caribbean.

Papers may be research-based or evidence-based, may deal with theory, "best practice", institutional frameworks and management, curriculum and delivery, evaluation and review, etc. It is hoped to have papers representing all library sectors and types of knowledge organisations in the region, from schools to universities, government organisations to commercial enterprises.

Proposals in the form of a working title, abstract of 150 words (max.), name and affiliation of author(s), and an email contact address should be sent by 30 January 2006 to:
