Call for Papers

University Libraries and other General Research Libraries Section

Theme:

The role of academic libraries in online and blended learning and teaching

This will be the theme of the program presented by the University Libraries and other General Research Libraries Section at the 72nd IFLA General Conference in Seoul, Republic of Korea, 20-24 August, 2006.

Many libraries are revamping their space, their mission statements and their services to demonstrate a true commitment to student-centered learning. As they work with faculty to become partners in this process, the question of the libraries' role becomes paramount. Libraries have alternatively been described as 'standing at the wrong platform, waiting for the wrong train,' or 'on the bleeding edge and leading the digital charge'. Papers that address the philosophical issues, facilities issues and technical issues are welcomed, as well as the success stories.

The IFLA University Libraries and other General Research Libraries Section invites librarians, faculty, technologists and other interested parties to participate in the 2-hour open session on this theme.

The session will consist of 4 papers. The deadline for submitting a detailed, one-page abstract of a proposed paper (which must not have been published elsewhere), and relevant biographical information of author(s)/presenter(s) is December 21, 2005.

Authors will be advised by the end of February 2006 if their paper has been selected. If selected, a full written paper will be required by 15 May 2006. The paper should be in one of the IFLA languages (English, French, German, Spanish or Russian.)

Please note that the expenses of attending the Seoul conference (including travel, expenses and conference fee) will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers, and at least one of the presenters/authors must be present for the program.

Abstracts should be sent to:
