Access to Information Network - Africa (ATINA) Discussion Group

Theme: Organizing for Democratic Access to Information in Africa

A new and timely IFLA discussion group, Access to Information Network - Africa (ATINA), will hold its inaugural meeting at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in August 2007 in Durban, South Africa.

ATINA is co-sponsored by the IFLA Africa Section, by IFLA FAIFE (the Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression core activitys), and by IFLA GIOPS (the Government Information and Official Publications Section).

The Durban conference program for Access to Information Network - Africa would welcome three short papers of general interest:
  • by diverse African contributors (librarians, freedom of information advocates, journalists)
  • about the state of access to government information and information about governments
  • and about the role of African libraries in supporting access to information for democracy
  • ideally in different geographical regions or language communities of Africa today.

Conference attendees interested in participating in a lively panel discussion with the audience on these topics may also indicate their special qualifications to the ATINA organising committee.

The deadline for receiving your proposal to participate is: FRIDAY, 9 FEBRUARY 2007.

Please send expressions of interest and paper abstracts (500-1000 words) in English or French to the ATINA convenor:
