1. DAC/LIASA Grant

Selection process now completed!

Fund Raising Results:

$AU10,609-00 has been transferred to IFLA to pay registration fees for sixteen librarians to attend the World Library and Information Congress in Durban.

The IFLA Governing Board is also providing some funding to assist the grantees with travel and accommodation expenses.

Selection process Results:

IFLA and LIASA have completed the selection process, and the successful recipients are from Botswana (2), Kenya (2), Malawi (2), Mauritius (1), Namibia (2), Tanzania (2), Uganda (2), Zambia (2), and Zimbabwe (1).

The types of libraries represented are Public (2), Special (6), Academic (6), National (1), and School (1). The Special Libraries include Medical (2), Agriculture (1), Government (1), NGO (1) and Education (1). The librarians included General (7), Research (1) School (1) Senior (5) and Lecturer (1).

The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) and LIASA take pleasure to announce the availability of grants for librarians to attend the 73rd IFLA Conference in Durban from the 18-23 August 2007.

South African Citizens: The grant will cover early registration fees, travel and accommodation if residing outside Durban.

Rest of AFRICA: The grant will cover early registration fees and an allowance of 300 Euro for board and lodging which will be paid out at the Congress.

Closing Date for applications: 20 April 2007

Criteria:

  • Must be employed in a library;
  • Must be a paid up member of your National Library Association;
  • South African Librarians must be individual members of LIASA;
  • Application form must be supported by Head of Institution, acknowledging leave will be granted to the candidate for purposes of attending IFLA;
  • Candidates will be expected to enter into an agreement with LIASA to accept the conditions of the grant and to undertake to refund all monies if he/she is not attending the Congress;
  • LIASA members will be expected to report back at the next LIASA Conference or at a branch meeting within 12 months;
  • Successful candidates must submit a written report by December 2007.

  • Signed Application form
  • Recent CV
  • Motivation for attending the Conference (300-500 words).
  • If qualified attach copies Certified copy of identity document/ Passport Proof of membership of Professional Association Proof of employment

A person not providing all the required documentation will be disqualified.

2. Congress Attendance Contributions

It is our pleasure to announce that we have found the resources to make available some funding for participation in the next IFLA World Library and Information Congress to be held in Durban, South Africa.

There will be 2 different types:
  1. registration fee only
  2. registration fee and an allowance (300 EUR) for board and lodging

This grant will not cover travel expenses!

These contributions are available to delegates from the following countries:
  • Angola
  • Botswana, Burundi
  • Congo Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo
  • Djibouti
  • Eritrea, Ethiopia
  • Kenya
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Rwanda
  • Seychelles, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda
  • Zambia and Zimbabwe
Delegates applying for a grant will have to:
  • be a member of their National Library Association, proof of that is required
  • send a committed letter of application and a well presented CV
  • provide proof of their professional background and experience: level of education, positions held and professional experience in general
  • make their choice for one of the types of funding (a or b)
  • declare that they are able to fund any other costs not covered by the grant allocated to them
  • write a report on their attendance after the conference

Selection

Priority will be given to younger professionals with a minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of libraries.

Priority will also be given to members of Standing Committees of IFLA Sections and persons invited to give a paper at one of the conference sessions.

Please state this clearly in the application.
