World Library and Information Congress: 74th IFLA General Conference and Council

"Emerging technologies in libraries – continuing professional development & workplace learning implications and applications"

10-14 August 2008, Québec, Canada

Call for Papers

Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning Section

Theme: Emerging technologies in libraries – continuing professional development & workplace learning implications and applications

The IFLA Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning Section (CPDWL) is facilitating this program session at the next IFLA World Library & Information Congress (10-14 August 2008, Québec, Canada).

This program session will focus on the continuing professional development and workplace learning impacts of new and emerging technologies in libraries & information services and the potential for use of those technologies as tools and resources for continuing professional development & workplace learning.

Stephen Abram, President 2008 of the Special Libraries Association, leading international librarian and lighthouse thinker in the North American library community will be one of the speakers in this program.

The IFLA CPDWL Section is now seeking proposals from others to present as part of the program.

We are particularly interested in proposals which explore these topics:

  • What are the implications of new/emerging technologies for continuing professional development & workplace learning needs in libraries & information services?
  • How might those technologies be used as tools and resources for continuing professional development & workplace learning?

Those interested in contributing to this program session should not be limited by those questions. Any proposal which addresses the broad themes of this program session is of interest and will be considered.

Proposals should be submitted in English.

The conference program session will be conducted in both English and/or French with simultaneous translation.

The selected presenters will be required to submit a formal paper, for inclusion on the IFLA conference website. Papers must be submitted in one of the official IFLA languages: English, French, German, Russian, Spanish.

Important Dates and Timelines

Timelines are very short for submission of both proposals for the program and the papers for inclusion on the IFLA conference website. (The CPDWL Section apologises for this short timeline. It is due to late confirmation of this program segment in Québec).
