Call for Papers

Genealogy and Local History Section

Theme:

"Local History: A Dynamic Partnership of Libraries, Archives, and Museums"

The Genealogy and Local History Section of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) invites proposals for papers on the theme "Local History: A Dynamic Partnership of Libraries, Archives, and Museums" for presentation at the World Library and Information Congress in Seoul, Korea, 20-24 August 2006.

The drive to preserve, promote, and publish local history has given rise to libraries, archives, and museums in many countries. After having gone their separate ways, today we see these institutions coming back together as they collectively seek to satisfy the need of communities to establish and promote their local identities and popular heritage. Papers should demonstrate the intellectual and institutional dynamics in the development of local history from its beginnings to the present and give participants a peak into its future direction. Emphasis on cooperation between libraries, archives, and museums in the field of local history is particularly encouraged.

Four papers will be selected for presentation.

Please send the title and a brief abstract of your paper to: Mel Thatcher
