Call for Papers

Academic and Research Libraries Section and Management & Marketing Section

Theme: Public and Private Partnerships

The IFLA Academic and Research Libraries Section together with the Management & Marketing Section invites librarians and other interested parties to submit proposals for papers for the Sections' joint two hour Open Programme during the Quebéc Congress.

Many libraries and information services are seeking to forge partnerships with private organisations to advance the development of services and resources. Some applaud these initiatives as entrepreneurial and innovative; others regard it as a dangerous development that might lead to bias and dependency. What are your experiences – good and bad – that will help others make decisions regarding public and private partnerships?

Submissions:

Please send a detailed abstract in English, please, (1 page or at least 300 words) of the proposed paper (must not have been published elsewhere) and relevant biographical information, including previous presentations to conferences etc, for the author(s)/presenter(s) by 14 March 2008 via email to:

Sue McKnight
Chair, IFLA Academic & Research Libraries Section
Director of Libraries & Knowledge Resources
Nottingham Trent University
E-mail: sue.mcknight@ntu.ac.uk

The abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Academic and Research Libraries Section and Management & Marketing Section Standing Committees. Successful proposals will be identified by 31 March 2008.

Full papers will be due by 15 May 2008. Papers should be no longer than 20 pages. A maximum of 20 minutes will be allowed for a summary delivery of the paper during the Sections' Open Programme in Quebéc.

Please note that the expenses of attending the Quebéc conference (including travel, conference fee, and any other expenses) will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of the accepted papers.
