Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section

Theme: The Challenges of Communication in a Parliamentary Environment

The IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section invites librarians, parliamentary researchers and others with relevant knowledge to express their interest in writing a paper and making a summary presentation at the Section's 2 hour open session programme in Quebec at the World Library and Information Congress: 74th IFLA General Conference and Council to be held 10-14 August 2008, Québec, Canada. We require two or three presentations on the topic "The challenges of communication in a parliamentary environment".

We invite papers that present and analyse:

  • Examples of best practice and innovation in communications with clients
  • Communication challenges and responses in multilingual parliamentary environment
  • The use of new tools/technology to improve communication (eg. web 2.0)
  • Any other issues that might have high relevance to library or research services communications in Parliaments

Submissions:

Send an abstract (1 page or at least 300 words) of the proposed paper and relevant biographical information of the author(s)/presenter(s) by 15 February 2008.

The abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Standing Committee. Successful proposals will be identified by 15 March. Full papers will be due by 15 April 2008 to allow time for review of papers and preparation of translations; papers should be no longer than 20 pages.

15-20 minutes will be allowed for a summary of delivery of the paper during the Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section's programme.

Please note that the expenses of attending the Quebec conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.
