InvitationThe German National Organising Committee and the German library community take great pleasure in inviting you to the World Library and Information Congress: 69th IFLA General Conference and Council which will take place in Berlin, the new capital of Germany, from 1-9 August 2003. We are very honoured that Germany's Federal President Johannes Rau has agreed to be Patron for the IFLA 2003 conference. The World Library and Information Congress: 69th IFLA General Conference and Council will take place in Berlin which is a dynamic example of the process of merging different systems and societies. As capital of the now unified Germany and as a symbol of European integration, Berlin offers a unique opportunity to intensify contacts with colleagues from all over the world. We sincerely believe that Berlin will offer you a stimulating and interesting scientific and social meeting.
Dr. Georg Ruppelt Message of Greeting from Federal President Johannes RauAs patron of the World Library and Information Congress: 69th IFLA General Conference and Council I would like to bid all participants a warm welcome to Berlin. I am delighted that your conference will be taking place for the first time in Berlin, the capital of reunited Germany. This formerly divided city, once a symbol of the division not only of my own country but also of Europe as a whole, is a tangible reminder of the importance of building bridges between the nations of Europe and the wider world. As librarians and information specialists dedicated to the preservation and dissemination of knowledge - on which our globalized world crucially depends - you make an outstanding contribution to building such bridges. For that I thank you all. I hope you will have many productive discussions and enjoyable encounters during your stay in Berlin. Johannes Rau
